Description: Geomorphic Landscape Unit, San Diego RWQCB Region 9Provision B.3.b(4)(a)(i) of the MS4 Permit requires the Copermittees to identify dominant hydrologic processes, such as areas where infiltration or overland flow likely dominates. The methodology used to describe dominant hydrologic processes is based on recommendations included in Technical Report 605 titled “Hydromodification Screening Tools: GIS-Based Catchment Analyses of Potential Changes in Runoff and Sediment Discharge” (Booth et al. 2010). The foundation for this analysis was to incorporate the Technical Report’s concept of grouping common hydrologic attributes into Hydrologic Response Units (HRUs). The identified HRUs were then related to the dominant hydrologic processes (i.e., overland flow, interflow, and groundwater recharge) in the Upper Santa Margarita River WMA.For this study area the NRCS Soil Data is classified into the following fields: A,A/D, B, B/D, C, C/D and D. The dual designations are dependant on how drained the soils are. The anticipated grain size of intersecting geologic units from the geology layer was used to determine a single soil designations for those features that NRCS classifies with a dual designation.100k scale vector data was collected from the California Geologic Survey within the Department of Conservation. Multiple maps sets intersected the Upper Santa Margarita watershed and were combined and clipped to the boundary of the Upper Santa Margarita watershed. The data was normalized according to the geologic feature name/type and age of each unit. From this information the following field was populated:Impermeable_PermeableThe values from this field contributes to the development of the Geomorphic Landscape Unit (GLU) coverages.
