Layer: Cranston 2018 Basin Predictions 15 min 24 mmh (ID: 0)

Name: Cranston 2018 Basin Predictions 15 min 24 mmh

Display Field: FIRE_NAME

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: Polygons in this feature class display debris flow estimates for the Cranston fire, year 2018 at the Drainage-Basin Level. Estimates are given for a rainstorm with a peak 15 minute intensity of 24 millimeters per hour. All datasets created in UTM coordinates, Distane Unit = meter, Angular Unit = Decimal Degree.Empirical models for these predictions are based on historical ebris-flow occurence and magnitude data, rainfall storm conditions, terrain and soils information, and burn-severity data from recently burned areas.Likelihood of debris flow in response to a given 15-minute raindall intensity is based on a logistical regression approach where likelihood ranges from 0 (least likely) to 1 (most likely). Values from this range are assigned to 5 equal interval classifications from cartographic display with a percentage likelihood.Additional info including equations used to obtain likelihood values can be found at: https://landslides.usgs.gov/hazards/postfire_debrisflow/background2016.php
